Angel and I woke up very early and took our computer and journal to a beach chair. The sun was coming up right through the palm trees. A few people were out on the beach with us. A dad had his two small children looking for shells on the shoreline.
our room was up there somewhere
on our way to the beach
the trash even had expensive items there
I could get used to working like this every morning.
It was fascinating to watch the tourist boats getting their supplies together. It was funny that the men in a catamaran made about 10 trips from the shore to the boat with supplies. There was a scuba boat with ladies loading up the supplies - they made one trip with a small canoe. Hum? Female ingenuity or as my brother would say -- the ladies were just lazy.

women's version
After the sun was fully up, we went to the hotel restaurant and had breakfast with the Aloha cat.
yes, I like my eggs over easy
This pineapple was MUCH better than Ken’s -- definitely not out of a can. :)
As we left our Waikoloa resort area - the terrain shocked us -- it looked like Utah or Arizona -- very barren.
Drove into Kamuela (cowboy country) to hit the post office (we decided to lighten our load a little). It took a few trips to the counter to get all of our happies in boxes and mailed out. Always interesting to see the locals -- there was one woman who had a stack of catalogs. It dawned on me that mail was one of their best outlets for shopping -- they were on an island, it’s not like they could pop over to a bigger city to get something. The internet must be the greatest invention ever for these folks. It was also sad to see an older lady with her daughter. The older lady you could tell had a lost look in her eyes, I guessed Alzheimer’s.
our parking lot -- these couldn't handle our shopping but I would love to ride one someday
what we mailed home
This is a real Hawaiian town where the locals live, work, and shop. It took me a few hours to understand why some of the stop signs had “Whoa” on them. This was a cowboy town and the massive and historic Parker Ranch owned the shopping complex.
While we were posting, Lily and Princess had found the nail salon. It took us a few minutes to locate them and we found our perch in a chair also. It’s tradition to have flowers on our toes -- and this time we added our fingers too. V was the owner's niece and she painted all our flowers. She did a great job.
While we were waiting on each other, checked out the grocery store (interesting food stuffs), the security guards directing traffic in the parking lot, and the artistic decor to the strip mall.
The next stop was the actual Parker Ranch store -- not a good place for cowgirl Angel to be. Lots of treasures here to find -- and all their Christmas items were 75% off. The Nantes French lady loved our accents -- yes, the French lady with the beautiful French country accent complimented our accents.
would have been neat to see
The Wishard Gallery was awesome -- oil paintings of the Big Island and it’s natural wonders were detailed and very colorful. If I only had some big time cash. For wall art, I am more about buying originals on the street. Couldn’t figure out what the sofa room was for.
Huge Remington-like statue in parking lot of Ikua Purdy -- a famous Hawaiian Na Paniolo Pipi, aka cowboy.
When we finally left it was overcast and had gotten very cold -- we needed those sweatshirts that we bought at the Parker Ranch Store. The hills were very green and reminded me of New Zealand/ Lord of the Rings country. We had seen dramatic changes in terrain all in one day. The road was very windy and Princess wasn’t pleased with the ride.
As we had not had lunch yet, we hit the King’s Shops -- had to shop our way to the restaurant. Found an art gallery that had a great little children’s book -- Sumorella -- a Cinderella story about Sumo wrestling -- a Hawaiian’s dream - retiring a champion Sumo wrestler, house sitting and marrying Miss Hawaii.
Crazy Shirt store, I don’t need to be let out of the house. While I did control myself, I cannot say that about Princess - she had never been in this store before. On our retail therapy spree, there was a pink store -- Mary Jane. They had cute Girlie Girl products and some really nice prints. The clerk was very nice and we deduced that this was her first day open. Princess gave her the store’s first dollar and signed it. Hopefully she will have good luck with the store, like grandmother did. We assisted in her first day’s sale.
I might have found something in this store too... maybe.
Darn, I didn't see that pretty green and blue one.
Finally made it to Merriman’s restaurant at the King’s Shops at the Waikoloa Resort area. Could see a beautiful purple sunset from our wrought iron tables on the patio.
Tapas were our treat for the night. Angel’s appetizer was Pineapple Sorbet. We had crab cakes, steamed broccoli, and gourmet mac and cheese. Yummy! The goat cheese and strawberry salad was good too. Angel had our best pizza of the trip - pork, cheese and pineapple -on the thinest crust.
The dessert menu was a tad bit scary -- but the chocolate, macadamia nut, coconut ice cream was good. I could have tried it.
After this my sister and I met up with a new friend, Louie. She hit Tiffany’s, while her big sister opted for Maui Divers and found my new favorite earrings -- silver plumeria. (meaning --- love, faith, devotion, hope and charity)
When we got back to the room we drug in more bags than we had mailed that morning. C’est la vie - we have to support the local economy, right?
