LONDON MARKETS --- PUT SOME CLOTHES ON GIRL --- DAY 30

My first real day back in Sydney, time to get busy on buying souvenirs for friends and family  -- so what does every smart Southern Belle do -- go to the weekend market of course.  Now they don’t have a Canton size market around here but I am sure I can find something.  Paddington Market was quite fun -- a hat for me and a beautiful Aussie necklace.  Oh yeah, I came to buy for other people.

Great little market, that reminded me of markets in London when I lived there.  I loved Camden Market and Portobello Road Market (maybe that should be my next trip, I haven’t been to London in a few years).  I walked down the street and stopped in a few shops and found this at the door.  He was so cute just standing in the middle of the doorway of the grocery waiting on his master.

Liquor shop FYI

Went back to my hotel to dump my purchases and then off to the Circular Quay to meet my friend, Paivi.  We met at Guylian, a Belgian Chocolatier -- yum.  After a Belgian Waffle with fresh fruit and dark chocolate and praline ice cream, we set off on a different journey.  To try and make it to Manly Beach for sunset.

I still can’t get enough of these sights:

The ferry ride out to Manly was smooth until we got almost there.  Then the water got a little rough.   Ugh, stomach turning on that part.  We got there as the sun was setting and had a view of the technicolor sky.

Wandered down to the beach and saw some surfers (there were quite a few out in the water).  The sun reflected off the buildings as it set.  Also the moon was already up.

Manly Beach was a much better area than Bondi Beach.  I might come back to hit Ocean World on Monday but I might not have time, depending on how many other things I have to see.   Weird shop, wonder what they sell:

After strolling down the very pretty esplanade, we ended up in this restaurant.  Our waiter was a goodlooking young Hungarian.
FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN THIS IN A RESTROOM.......

After relaxing here for a couple of hours, we left for the Mortar and Pestle, a Thai restaurant.  The food was good but it was extremely loud on the inside.  If you go here shy away from the fish cakes, the fried rice and chicken curry was excellent.

Taking the Manly ferry back to Sydney, it was untimely freezing outside (snowing in Katoomba -- I just left there a few days ago).  They said that this is as cold as it gets here, even in the winter.  Not bad compared to home.  Thanks Paivi, it was a fun day being shown around by a local.  Good Luck with your studies etc. It was good to visit.
We saw lots of young ladies going out in very very short skirts.  What’s up with that?  They are protesting with the Slutwalk but walking around on a Saturday night with skirts cut up to their butts?  These skirts were shorter than I have ever worn even when I was younger.   Now I am not condemning anyone for their fashion choices, but if you advertise you will probably find a buyer.
After I hiked up Essex St. (this is the bad part of staying at this fancy hotel), I came in my room to discover my bed had been turned down.  There was a beautiful bookmark waiting for me on my bed.  :)  Where else do they give you a bookmark??
